HOTEL CAN MORAGUES. ARTA. MALLORCA.YEAR 1999
The present project involves the construction of a four-star hotel in an old thirteenth-century manor in Calle Pou Nou 12, in the historic quarter of the town of Artá.
The purpose here was that of rehabilitating the house in question and turning it into an exclusive hotel of just eight rooms that would offer accommodation and breakfast, comfort as well as a friendly, customised service, all within an atmosphere of peace and relaxation.
The area in question is a plot covering a surface of 664.88m2 and harbouring various buildings that have three storeys and an inner block courtyard covering an exterior surface of some 200m2, with orange and lemon trees.
The work undertaken here is based on two important premises: the preservation and rehabilitation of the main building and the recovery of the inner block courtyard as a representative space of the Hotel and a setting for all the relational activities between the guests of the establishment.
In this way, it was possible to recover the composition of the exterior façades of the main building as well as its former volumetry, respecting the existing structure and the core of the main stairway that leads one to the first floor. As for the recovery of the inner courtyard, a building located next to the partition was knocked down in the interests of a wider surface and more sunlight; and the relationship of the inner courtyard with the two adjacent streets was boosted, favouring a visual relationship from both of them and thus restoring the courtyard’s centrality as a space representing the hotel.
